Virtual presentation of British Museum objects (Language: German)
A downloadable project for Windows
About
The British Museum collection holds many interesting artifacts of human history. For this little experiment in displaying virtual objects, I chose three relatively famous ones that seemed intriguing to show. The Townley Discobolus is a beautiful work of Greco-Roman art, all the more unique due to the fact that it was actually restored incorrectly. Also featured are the Gayer-Anderson cat and the Lewis Chessmen. To find out more about these, just try out this little application ;) - but I should give a fair warning that it is in German. I did not make the models for the Museum objects myself, these are available from the "Scan the World" collection - look it up!However, I tried my best to texture them and present them in an interesting light, and I think it turned out quite nice. You can free-roam the camera around every object and get a good look at many interesting details.
Credits
The original models can be found here, among tons of other interesting stuff: https://www.myminifactory.com/scantheworld/
For more info and images of their real-world counterparts, look here: https://www.britishmuseum.org/. A lot of the pictures there are available with a CC license!
The software used to create this included Cinema4D & Blender for adapting the models, Quixel Mixer and Adobe Photoshop for texturing, and Unity URP for putting it all together.
This project was made as part of the Visualization and Interaction in Digital media (VIS) program of HS Ansbach, Supervisor: Florian Machill
